Design & Engineering FAQs

Design for Manufacturing (DFM) is the process of reviewing your part or assembly before production to make sure it can be fabricated efficiently and reliably. It focuses on material selection, part geometry, tolerances, and secondary processes, ensuring your design aligns with how the part will actually be made.

By catching potential issues early and optimizing the design, DFM helps reduce material waste, eliminate unnecessary steps, shorten lead times, and lower your overall unit cost.

We can work with you at whatever stage your design is in. If you already have drawings, our team will review them, flag potential issues, and suggest adjustments to improve manufacturability, fit, and cost. If your design is still in development, we can provide engineering support to refine details such as material and gauge selection, part geometry, and tolerances before the parts are released for production.

Our engineering team regularly works from customer-supplied drawings and models and can accommodate common 2D and 3D engineering formats. If you send your drawings or models along with your project details, we’ll confirm that the file format is compatible with our systems and production workflow. If there are any issues with the files, we’ll work with you to find a practical way forward.

Both. We can start with concept drawings to discuss feasibility, risks, and general direction, but accurate pricing and lead times require clear, production-ready drawings. Our team will review whatever you have, identify what’s needed for a reliable quote, and help you refine the design as part of our DFM and engineering support. Once the key dimensions, materials, and tolerances are defined, we can provide a detailed quote and move smoothly into production.

Yes, our engineering support extends to both individual parts and multi-part assemblies. We review how parts fit and function together, check tolerances and interfaces, and look for ways to simplify assembly for your team. By optimizing the design at the assembly level, we help reduce downstream complexity, minimize rework, and ensure that everything fits the first time, every time.
